Pom-pom whisk – Happy Days – Bucket Filled

Pom-pom whisk

This pom-pom whisk activity is a very simple and engaging activity aimed at babies and toddlers. It is inexpensive, uses an everyday household item, it’s quick to set up and provides an array of learning opportunities. Your little ones will be provided opportunities to learn through play, to practice fine motor skills and bilateral coordination as well as develop problem solving skills, logical thinking, and patience.

Please note that this activity does contain small pom poms which may become a choking hazard. Please always be mindful and supervise your child. If your child is one who likes to mouth a lot of toys, perhaps you may like to try using some large objects. E.g. Try using fabric strips, blocks, straws.

Setup

  1. Fill your whisk with a variety of pom-poms. Gently push them through the openings one by one until the head of the whisk is full. A silicone whisk will have more movement and may allow you to use a wider range of objects, however a normal wire whisk will work just as well.
  2. Now offer the whisk to your child and encourage them to remove the pom-poms from the whisk. You may need to demonstrate this skill.
  3. Allow your child to engage independently, offering support when needed. You may like to provide a small bowl to place the loose parts in to add an extra step to the activity and to help keep things a little tidier.
