Hallway maze run

This hallway maze run activity is perfectly suited for active children on cold, or rainy days. Not only does this experience promote great thinking, problem solving and creative skills, but it also encourages lots of climbing, jumping and crawling. It is a great way to burn some active energy, AND it requires minimal resources or time to set up. Win, win, win!

What you will need

Activity steps

  1. Cut the crepe paper into long strips. Long enough to reach one side of your hallway to the other side.
  2. Use your tape to attach the paper strips from one side of the hallway to the other, width ways. Be creative with your design, put some down low, others up high, try putting some on diagonals. Don’t forget to leave a little space in between the strips.
  3. Try to make the maze challenging enough so your child can’t just scoot underneath and be done with it, but achievable enough so they don’t give up quickly.
  4. Now you are ready to play! Encourage your child to navigate their way through the maze without touching the paper strips- for younger children they might need some verbal prompts to begin with, maybe even a demonstration if you are up for it!

Variations

  • Use a timer to time how quick your child can make it through the maze safely
  • Use different coloured strips – pink is over only, red is for under only etc
  • For older children they might like to create the maze themselves

Add a little mission impossible music to set the mood and get that body moving!
