Blow painting monsters were a lot of fun. Simple to create, minimal resources required, easy to set up and clean up. All you need is some paper, primary coloured paint, a straw, markers and a little creativity! Create one, or as many as you like- let your creativity run wild!

- Googly eyes and collage materials (optional)
Activity steps
Setup
- Mix some paint with a little bit of water in a paint pot. We originally did not do this step and it is not necessarily required, but it does make blowing the paint a little bit easier.
- Drip some paint onto your page. We used primary-coloured paint’s so we’d naturally get some colour mixing on our page.
- Use your straw to blow the paint around your page. Move the paper in different directions to create lots of different shapes.
- Leave the paint to dry. Or if your impatient like us just go ahead with the next step!
- Using your markers, add some detail to your monster- arms, legs, hats, eyes. If you have googly eyes or collage materials you might like to add some of these to your creations. The ideas are endless! Let your creativity run wild and leave us a comment below. We’d love to see your unique monsters!
Learning Opportunities
- Fine motor- manipulating the straw, squeezing paint bottles, drawing, sticking collage items onto your artwork.
- Sensory attributes- Breathing is very sensory, and using staws is a great was to control your breathing and learning breathing coordination. This activity can be very therapeutic with your children taking deep breaths and releasing it through the straw to move the paint around the page.
- Colour mixing- Your children will be able to engage in colour identification and colour mixing attributes throughout their play.
- Creative expression- Provides children opportunity to have fun, learn and develop critical skills. Children can freely articulate themselves, their feelings and thoughts.
