Set up

  1. Fill your container with a thick layer of shaving foam.
  2. Now add some paint. A few drops here and there or a few drizzles is ideal. Any colour paints can be used, however I like to use primary colours to optimize the learning opportunities and add a colour mixing element to the experience too. You can use food colouring, however I find that it stains your hands.
  3. Now get messy! I offered a plastic fork and spoon to initiate the play, however anyone who knows my kids, knows that was short lived. Have fun watching your children explore patterns, engage with colour mixing and stimulate their senses.

Extension ideas:

  • Add some plastic cups or toy figures to the play. Make sure they are plastic and washable!
  • Add an art element to the activity by making shaving foam colour art . Have your child engage in play as above but add one extra step. Provide them with some blank paper and press down onto the shaving cream. Gently peel back the paper and scrap off any excess foam and allow to dry.
